A Brief Introduction to Georgia - iBackpack Georgia

This post is very special as it is the first post in iBackpack Georgia. This blog is a little dream of mine through which I would like to share my thoughts with the world about this beautiful country. Here I would like to give some brief introduction about the country of Georgia. I will be a very short post because I'm going to cover everything about Georgia in a great detail in my future posts.

The National Flag Of Georgia
Georgia is a small post soviet country located between Europe and Asia [Eurasia]. It is bounded on the west by the black sea and the rest of the sides are bound by similar post soviet countries such as Azerbaijan, Armenia etc. Georgia is often confused with the American city of Georgia and hence I guess this post is important to emphasize the fact that we are not talking about the American city here.

Georgia lies on the foothills of the great Caucasus mountain range and it is well known for its unexplored natural beauties. The official language of Georgia is Georgian or Kartuli and the native people here are called Georgians in English or Kartvelian in Georgian. There are other important languages or different dialects in Georgia such as Svanetian and Megrelian. The people here also have a good knowledge of Russian but English influence among the locals are still poor. However its worth mentioning that the younger generations are having a greater impact of English rather than Russian.

The official currency of Georgia is the Georgian Lari however there is a widespread use of other global currencies such as US Dollars, Euro & Great Britain Pounds. US Dollars can be regarded as the most used currency in Georgia. The value of Georgian currency, Lari is pretty high. Usually for every US Dollar you may get around 1.70 Georgian Lari. Georgia is a developing country on its own and a part of the local people here do suffer poverty. Like any other developing country Tourism plays an important part in the development of Georgia. There are many emigrants from Georgia who can be found in several European countries, Turkey, and the United States.
